Ms Lindiwe Kwele was born in KwaZulu-Natal and attended Sacred Heart Secondary School. Her energetic approach to innovation, along with her creative ideas, strategic leadership and hard work also found expression through her formal educational achievements, which include: Master of Business Administration from Wales University, Advance Business Programme (Natal Technikon) and Bachelor of Administration from University of Durban Westville where she majored in economics and public administration. She also completed the Executive Excellence Leadership Programme from Gordon Institute of Business Science and Municipal Finance Management Programme from University of Pretoria.
Ms. Kwele has over the past 15 years showcased her expert knowledge and ability to innovate along the value chain in the corporate environment, as well as in three of South Africa’s largest Cities, namely the City of eThekwini as a Chief Executive Officer of Durban Africa, City of Johannesburg as a Chief Executive Officer of Joburg Tourism Company and currently City of Tshwane as a Deputy City Manager: Strategy, Development and Implementation.
As a Deputy City Manager in the City of Tshwane: Lindiwe Kwele is charged with a responsibility of leading, directing and overseeing the Strategy Development and Implementation Cluster within the City of Tshwane. This portfolio includes amongst others development of long-term (Tshwane Vision 2055) and medium-term (Integrated Development Plan) strategies, city development and facilitation, programme management of key catalytic projects, inner city rejuvenation initiatives and township upgrading programme, economic development facilitation and promotion, tourism, and lastly organizational performance and reporting.
She is currently a Convener of the AG’s Management Letter Action Plan (MLAP) for the City which advises Mayoral Committee, Governance Sub-Mayoral Committee and the City Manager on a number governance related issues ranging from performance management, finance, risks and communication. Professionally, Ms. Kwele exemplifies South Africa’s dynamic new breed of senior executives – energetic, hardworking and well networked. She embraces the principles of good corporate governance, and the high positive returns of implementing strategies towards the realization of a vision, outcomes and impacts.
